Request yours today!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong><em>Have you lost<\/em><\/strong> your<strong><em> DD214?\u00a0 Is your DD214 hard to read?<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>One of the most important documents a Veteran should have handy\u00a0is the DD214.\u00a0 For instance, to close on a <a href=\"https:\/\/teammovemortgage.com\/va-loans.php\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>VA home loan<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, a Veteran must provide the form.\u00a0 But often the form is misplaced or gets worn out.\u00a0 Well, there is a website for veterans to gain access to their DD214 discharge papers online.\u00a0 So don&#8217;t procrastinate!\u00a0\u00a0Update your DD214\u00a0before you need it, because it could take a little time to receive.\u00a0 There are a couple ways to request it and the steps are provided below per the NPRC website.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Request a DD214<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Contact the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Request by Phone:\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>Call NPRC Customer Service Line at 314-801-0800 from 6:00 AM EST thru 6:00 PM EST<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Request Online:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.archives.gov\/veterans\/military-service-records\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-size: 28px;\">Request Your DD214 Here<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Who can order records online?<\/strong>\u00a0 You may use\u00a0the National Archives\u00a0system if you are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A military veteran<\/li>\n<li>Next of kin of a deceased, former member of the military.\u00a0 The next of kin can be any of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>Surviving spouse that has not remarried<\/li>\n<li>Father<\/li>\n<li>Mother<\/li>\n<li>Son<\/li>\n<li>Daughter<\/li>\n<li>Sister<\/li>\n<li>Brother<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Required Information needed to obtain the DD214:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The veteran&#8217;s complete name used while in service<\/li>\n<li>Service number<\/li>\n<li>Social Security Number<\/li>\n<li>Branch of service<\/li>\n<li>Dates of service<\/li>\n<li>Date and place of birth (especially if the service number is not known)<\/li>\n<li>If you suspect your records may have been involved in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.archives.gov\/st-louis\/military-personnel\/fire-1973.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1973 fire<\/a><\/span>, also include:\n<ul>\n<li>Place of discharge<\/li>\n<li>Last unit of assignment<\/li>\n<li>Place of entry into the service, if known<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Veteran or next of kin must sign and date the request<\/li>\n<li>Additional documentation is required if you are next of kin for a deceased Veteran.\u00a0\u00a0Must prove the\u00a0death of the veteran\u00a0with either a\u00a0copy of a death certificate, letter from funeral home, or published obituary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Recommended Information (optional):\u00a0 While this information is not required, it is extremely helpful to NPRC staff in understanding and fulfilling your request:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The purpose or reason for your request, such as applying for veterans benefits, preparing to retire, or researching your personal military history<\/li>\n<li>Any deadlines related to your request.\u00a0\u00a0They will do their best to meet any priorities.\u00a0 For example,\u00a0mention the deadline of a VA loan approval<\/li>\n<li>Any other specific information, documents, or records you require from your Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) besides your Report of Separation (DD214)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Response time for records<\/strong> requested from the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.archives.gov\/st-louis\/index.html\">National Personnel Records Center (NPRC)<\/a><\/span> varies and is dependent on several areas.\u00a0 Response time depends\u00a0 on\u00a0complexity of your request, the availability of records, and\u00a0their workload.\u00a0 Please do not send a follow-up request before 90 days have elapsed, as it may cause further delays.
