Additionally the Country Living article ranked the quaint little lake town as #6 in the country!&nbsp; It is such a small town, I would venture that most&nbsp;people living an hour or more away, have not visited to take in the experience.&nbsp; This is a unique fitness oriented, free event for anyone from young children to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aarp.org\/\">senior citizens<\/a>.&nbsp; The good thing is it is not a race!&nbsp; From Saturday &#8211; Monday, events include a 16 mile walk\/run, 14 mile paddle, 16 mile bike &amp; hike, and finally 4 mile swim.&nbsp; If you really want a challenge, try the &#8220;Take the Lake Extreme&#8221;.&nbsp; This event is for those that attempt to complete all 4 events in one day.&nbsp; It is purely to promote health and to enjoy the beauty of the large natural freshwater lake.<\/p>\n<p>So what do you do the other days of the year?&nbsp; First of all, Lake Waccamaw is not a highly commercialized area.&nbsp; But there are lots of things to do and most are outside.&nbsp; The state park which is located on the backside of the lake has something for everyone.&nbsp; There is a museum to learn the lake&#8217;s history.&nbsp; Additionally, there are hiking trails, picnic and camping areas, and a pier to access the lake.&nbsp; On the 4th of July, many will hop on a boat, sit on a pier, or park by the road to see the fireworks shot all around the lake.&nbsp;
